University Hospital Coventry is at Walsgrave on Sowe, about 4 miles north-east of the city centre. It took its first patients on 10 July 2006, a 1,250-bed hospital built where the old Walsgrave Hospital stood. It replaced the Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital in the city centre at the same time.

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire, the NHS trust that runs it, calls it one of Europe's most modern hospitals, with more than 900 beds and 26 operating theatres. It is a major trauma centre and a cancer centre. Its specialist work runs from cardiology and neurosurgery to stroke care, joint replacement, IVF and kidney transplants.

The hospital marked its twentieth anniversary on 30 July 2026. Earlier in the year, in May, a Urology Investigations Unit opened in the main outpatients department, with lithotripsy for kidney stones on site three days a week.

A hospital this size draws people who need more than a night in a hotel. Agency nurses, locum doctors and students on placement work blocks of shifts. Families support a patient through a long admission. A whole house gives them a kitchen, a washing machine and a bedroom each.

Sullivan Heights is about 2 miles by road from the hospital, Stoke Lodge and Stoke House about 3 miles and Humber Hub about 4 miles. Sullivan Heights, on the north side of the city, is the closest of the four. The trust's second hospital, the Hospital of St Cross in Rugby, has a page of its own.
