Stays near Stoke Aldermoor

Stoke Aldermoor is a suburb on the south-east side of Coventry, beside the River Sowe. Stoke is to its north, Whitley to the south-west and Ernesford Grange to the east, while the small estate next to Pinley Fields is known locally as Pinley. It sits in the Lower Stoke ward, the same ward as Humber Hub.

The area has an industrial past out of proportion to its size. In the Second World War the Rootes No 1 Shadow Factory here turned out scout cars as well as engines for tanks, lorries and aircraft. The site later became the UK head office of Peugeot, which stayed until 2008 before moving to new premises nearby in Pinley.

Film and television fans may recognise the streets. The sewer chase with the Minis in The Italian Job (1969) was shot here and so were the outside scenes of Daisy and Onslow's house in Keeping Up Appearances.

Next door, Ernesford Grange was built as a three-phase estate in the 1960s and 1970s. Binley Little Woods, a protected site in the middle of it, is known for its bluebells every May. The Alan Higgs Centre on Allard Way, opened in 2004, has a 50-metre swimming pool.

Stoke Lodge and Stoke House are the closest of our homes, about a mile by road, with Humber Hub about a mile. It has four bedrooms, each with an en-suite, room for 10 and free off-road parking. Jaguar Land Rover's Whitley site is about 2 miles from the house.
