About Jaguar Land Rover, Fen End
Fen End is a 200-acre site near Kenilworth that JLR lists as the headquarters of Special Vehicle Operations, with staff functions, SV and VP engineering, Event Vehicle Operations and a test track. The company counts 131 workshop bays there.
The land was RAF Honiley, a wartime airbase that was once home to fighter squadrons. JLR bought it in September 2014 and said it chose the site for its location and its test track, a former runway. Around 350 JLR information technology staff were already working in offices there at the time.
In 2015 the company set out plans to move its Vehicle Operations team to Fen End: around 300 specialist engineers who prepare vehicles for global events and product launches, drawn from Gaydon, Whitley and Browns Lane. Before JLR, the motorsport firm Prodrive had planning permission for an engineering campus on the site, a scheme it shelved after changes in Formula One.
Event and launch work comes in waves. A team can spend weeks at Fen End preparing a fleet and then be gone, which is where a furnished house booked for exactly those weeks earns its keep over a run of hotel nights.
