The UK Battery Industrialisation Centre is the country's national battery development facility, just south of Coventry. Our nearest home is about 3 miles away.
The UK Battery Industrialisation Centre, UKBIC, describes itself as the UK's national battery development facility. It helps companies scale up battery manufacturing and provides the skills and support to move into industrial production, as an open-access facility between research and mass production.
It was created in 2018 after a competition led by the Advanced Propulsion Centre with support from Innovate UK. A consortium of Coventry City Council, the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership and WMG at the University of Warwick set it up. It is a key part of the government's Battery Innovation Programme at UK Research and Innovation. Its original set-up was part-funded through the West Midlands Combined Authority.
The facility holds more than £60 million of specialist manufacturing equipment and was officially opened by the Prime Minister in July 2021. Its recent milestones include UN certification for shipping its own 21700 cylindrical cells and the final phase of its Flexible Pilot Line for cell assembly.
UKBIC sits just outside Coventry's boundary in the northern tip of Warwick District, next to the former Coventry Airport and about half a mile east of the junction of the A46 and A45. The airport closed in June 2026 and its site is being redeveloped for battery manufacturing, which makes this corner of Baginton the centre of the region's battery work.
Humber Hub is about 3 miles by road from the UKBIC and former airport site, Stoke Lodge and Stoke House about 4 miles and Sullivan Heights about 5 miles. Humber Hub adds four bedrooms and free off-road parking; Stoke Lodge and Stoke House put eighteen beds side by side for a bigger commissioning team.

The place was fantastic, the bed was clean and orderly, cozy and comfortable, and we loved the cupcakes left on the table. Perfect for anyone new to Coventry for business or fun.
