About Baginton

Baginton is a village and civil parish in Warwick District that shares a border with the City of Coventry. It lies about four miles south of the city centre, four and a half miles north-east of Kenilworth and seven miles north of Leamington Spa, with 741 residents at the 2021 census. It is often misspelt Bagington.

People have lived here since at least the Iron Age. Domesday records 15 households and a mill in the eleventh century. The remains of Baginton Castle, a house of the late fourteenth century, stand in woodland on private land and are a scheduled monument; Henry Percy was imprisoned here after his son Harry Hotspur's defeat at Shrewsbury.

On the north side of the village, near the wooded slope down to the River Sowe known as The Lunt, are the remains of the Lunt Roman Fort. Parts were reconstructed in the 1970s and it is a popular site for school visits. The Baginton oak, thought to be 300 to 350 years old, is one of the oldest trees in Warwickshire.

Coventry Airport opened here in 1936 as Baginton Aerodrome and became a fighter base in the Second World War, home by 1941 to No. 308 Polish Fighter Squadron. Flights ended on 9 May 2026 and the airport closed on 11 June 2026; the site is being redeveloped for a battery gigafactory. The Midland Air Museum sits next to it.

Humber Hub is about 3 miles by road from Baginton, Stoke Lodge and Stoke House about 4 miles and Sullivan Heights about 6 miles. For teams working on the former airport site or nearby at Whitley, Humber Hub's four bedrooms and off-road parking make it the natural base.
