The project

About Daimler Wharf, Sandy Lane

Daimler Wharf is the council's name for a 7-acre site between Sandy Lane and the Coventry Canal, north of the city centre. Its project record describes a canal-side scheme of houses, apartments, employment space and some leisure and recreation, including the Daimler Powerhouse arts complex.

The name comes from the street's history. Daimler opened Britain's first car factory in Coventry, with the first car leaving the works in January 1897. The company's original Sandy Lane plant was destroyed by fire in the bombing of Coventry.

The scheme is active again. The council's planning register shows seven applications for Sandy Lane Business Park and the land by Electric Wharf between December 2025 and July 2026, among them a reserved matters application and several to approve conditions.

The Coventry Canal towpath leads south from here into the city centre. Crews on a canalside site get a walk into town after a shift. The rest of the city is a short trip by road.

Stoke Lodge and Stoke House are about 2 miles by road from the site, Sullivan Heights about 3 miles and Humber Hub about 3 miles. Every house has free parking and a full kitchen, which suits a fit-out crew better than a city-centre hotel.
