Nuneaton's old trades of ribbon weaving, coal mining and manufacturing have faded since the war. A large number of businesses in the automotive, aerospace and engineering supply chains are still active around the town, whose road and rail links also make it a commuter town for Coventry and Birmingham.

The best known is MIRA, formerly the Motor Industry Research Association, which works from a disused wartime airfield on the A5 north of the town. Healthcare is another big employer: George Eliot Hospital, on the outskirts, serves more than 300,000 people across north Warwickshire, south-west Leicestershire and north Coventry.

South of the centre, Bermuda Park holds the national distribution centres of Dairy Crest and RS Components, with its own station opened in 2016 on the line to Coventry. Holland & Barrett has its European headquarters in Nuneaton and FedEx its UK head office.

The town sits close to the M6, M42 and M69 and the A5, with the A444 dual carriageway running in from the south. Nuneaton station is an important junction on the West Coast Main Line, the Birmingham to Peterborough line and the line to Coventry through Bedworth.
