Short lets for a few nights near Nuneaton

Nuneaton's centre was largely rebuilt after wartime bombing to a masterplan by the architect Frederick Gibberd, drawn up in 1947 and carried out into the 1960s with a ring road, an indoor shopping centre and a new library. The Ropewalk Shopping Centre opened in 2005 beside the older Abbeygate centre.

Just outside the ring road stands St Nicolas, a medieval church listed grade I. In the middle of a town-centre roundabout, the Roanne or Dandelion Fountain sprays 50,000 gallons an hour from 385 arms and was named UK Roundabout of the Year in 2016. The geographic centre of England, at Lindley Hall Farm, lies about 3 miles north of the town. Nuneaton itself takes its name from a Benedictine nunnery founded in about 1155, when Robert de Beaumont granted the manor of Etone to the French Abbey of Fontevraud.

Sullivan Heights is about 8 miles by road from Nuneaton, Stoke Lodge and Stoke House about 9 miles and Humber Hub about 10 miles. Arrive to made beds, fresh towels and a kitchen for the morning coffee.

Literary visitors will spot the George Eliot Hotel on Bridge Street, once the Bull Hotel, which appears as the Red Lion in her stories. Griff House, her family home, now serves meals beside the A444 south of the town.
