NHS staff accommodation

NHS staff accommodation for Nuneaton

George Eliot Hospital opened in 1948 and is run by its own trust, the George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust. From one site on the outskirts of Nuneaton it provides emergency and planned medical care, maternity, children's, diagnostic and therapeutic services for north Warwickshire, south-west Leicestershire and north Coventry.

The hospital took over Nuneaton's accident and emergency services, theatres and orthopaedic wards when the Manor Hospital closed in July 1993. Its training and education centre, GETEC, opened in July 2005 and many of the wards carry the names of characters from George Eliot's novels, such as Adam Bede and Felix Holt. The Queen visited in December 1994 and unveiled a bust of herself that still stands in the main entrance. The hospital even ran its own museum, opened in 1982 as a teaching aid and later one of the few NHS-owned museums in the country, until cost-cutting closed it.

Sullivan Heights is about 8 miles by road from the hospital, Stoke Lodge and Stoke House about 9 miles and Humber Hub about 9 miles. Sullivan Heights sleeps six across three bedrooms, so colleagues on the same rota can share. Its separate tumble dryer helps on a run of night shifts.

The trust reaches well beyond the hospital. It runs community services across Coventry, Warwickshire and Leicestershire, including sexual health and community dentistry for the whole of Warwickshire. It also hosts the Blue Sky Sexual Assault Referral Centre.
