Long stays for work in Nuneaton

Nuneaton grew on ribbon weaving and coal. Silk weavers worked from three-storey top-shops from the 17th century and output from the Warwickshire coalfield rose nearly tenfold between 1860 and 1913. Brick and tile making, brewing, hats, leather goods and engineering followed from the 1880s. Mining was recorded here as early as 1338 and the Trent Valley Railway arrived in 1847, followed by a branch to Coventry in 1850 and the Birmingham to Leicester line in 1864.

Today the work is in the supply chains for cars, aircraft and engineering, at the distribution centres of Bermuda Park and at MIRA on the A5. The town sits close to the M6, M42 and M69, with the A444 running in from the south and the A4254 Eastern Relief Road skirting the centre.
