About Whitley Pumping Station, London Road

Whitley Pumping Station on London Road dates from 1893. The Coventry Society lists it, with its lodge, among the city's buildings at risk, both derelict and waiting for a new use.

Homes England, the government's housing agency, acquired the site in 2018 to deliver new homes and said it was keen to keep the station's Victorian legacy. The hybrid planning permission covers up to 195 new homes, with the lodge converted into a house and the pump house into four flats.

The detail is now being settled. The council's planning register shows seven applications between August 2025 and May 2026 to approve details reserved by condition. One of them was approved in July 2026.

Restoring Victorian brick buildings beside new streets brings specialist trades as well as housebuilders: heritage builders, roofers and joiners alongside the groundworkers. Whitley is also home to JLR's headquarters, so the area is busy with engineers through the week.

Humber Hub is about a mile by road from Whitley, Stoke Lodge and Stoke House about 2 miles and Sullivan Heights about 3 miles. Humber Hub has four bedrooms and free off-road parking.
