About Waterside Gardens, Sutton Stop

Waterside Gardens is a Taylor Wimpey development off Grange Road at Sutton Stop, on the edge of Hawkesbury Village in the north of Coventry. Its listings describe 262 two, three and four-bedroom homes alongside the Coventry Canal.

Sutton Stop is the other name for Hawkesbury Junction, where the Oxford Canal meets the Coventry Canal. The name comes from a family that supplied several of the lock keepers in the nineteenth century. The junction opened at Longford in 1777 and moved to its present place in 1803. A disused engine house from 1821, which once held a Newcomen steam engine pumping water into the canal, still stands on the western bank.

The build is moving through its stages. The council's planning register shows 12 applications for the land south of Sutton Stop between May 2025 and June 2026, most of them to approve details reserved by condition, alongside several amendments.

Canalside schemes need more than bricklayers. Drainage and towpath works, landscaping along the water and the utility connections all bring their own crews, as do the buyers who move in phase by phase.

Sullivan Heights is about 3 miles by road from the site, Stoke Lodge and Stoke House about 5 miles and Humber Hub about 5 miles. Sullivan Heights, on the north side of the city, is the closest of the four, with three bedrooms for a small crew or a family waiting to move in.
