About National Exhibition Centre

The National Exhibition Centre stands at Marston Green in the borough of Solihull, near junction 6 of the M42 and next to Birmingham Airport and Birmingham International station. Queen Elizabeth II opened it on 2 February 1976. On its fiftieth anniversary in 2026 it was rebranded the Nation's Experience Capital.

It has 18 interconnected halls with 186,000 square metres of floor space, 32 conference suites and 440 acres of flexible space. The arena on site, opened in December 1980 and now branded BP Pulse Live, hosts concerts and sport.

The centre nearly went elsewhere: it was first planned beside the M1 near Leicester, until Leicestershire County Council turned it down. Edward Heath started construction in 1973. New halls were added in 1989, 1993 and 1998.

HS2's Birmingham Interchange station is being built on the outskirts of Solihull close to the NEC, which will add to the traffic of crews and contractors in the area over the coming years.

Stoke Lodge and Stoke House are about 12 miles by road from the NEC, Humber Hub about 13 miles and Sullivan Heights about 16 miles. For a stand-build crew or a team staying for a long show, a whole house in Coventry gives everyone a bed and a kitchen, with free parking for the vans.
