About Coleshill

Coleshill, said Koh-zil, is a market town and civil parish in North Warwickshire, named after the River Cole on which it stands. It had 6,900 residents at the 2021 census and lies 11 miles east of Birmingham and about 13 miles north-west of Coventry by road. Coleshill School, more than 500 years old, stands beside the dual carriageway.

The town sits on a ridge between the Cole and the Blythe, which meet the Tame to the north. It began in the Iron Age at Grimstock Hill, north of the river, where archaeologists in the late 1970s found hut circles and a Romano-Celtic temple rebuilt at least three times.

The area lay at the meeting point of two powerful tribes, the Coritanii from Leicester and the Cornovii to the west. After the Roman period the centre of the settlement moved about a kilometre south to the hilltop, where the medieval town grew up around the church.

By 1066 Coleshill was a royal manor held by Edward the Confessor. Today it borders Kingshurst in Solihull and sits just outside Birmingham, close to the motorway network around the NEC.

Sullivan Heights is about 15 miles by road from Coleshill, Stoke Lodge and Stoke House about 16 miles and Humber Hub about 16 miles. For teams working across the NEC and the Coventry side, a whole house is a comfortable base.
