The project

About Coventry University

Coventry University's main campus is in the city centre, next to Coventry Cathedral and the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum. Its roots go back to the Coventry School of Design, founded in 1843. It became Lanchester Polytechnic in 1970, Coventry Polytechnic in 1987 and a university in 1992.

The Hub, opened in August 2011, is the centre of the campus and home to the Students' Union. A £55 million engineering building opened in September 2012 with a full-scale Harrier jump jet inside. The Lanchester Library dates from 2000.

It is a big university. Its published figures put student numbers for 2024/25 at between about 29,500 and 38,400, across Coventry and campuses in London, Scarborough and Wrocław in Poland.

Those numbers bring a steady flow of visitors. Parents move students in and out, families come for open days and graduations, lecturers and researchers visit for weeks at a time and contractors keep the campus buildings running.

Stoke Lodge and Stoke House are about a mile by road from the campus, Humber Hub about a mile and Sullivan Heights about 2 miles. A whole house suits a graduation party better than several hotel rooms, with a table big enough for everyone.
