Contract work in and around Kenilworth

Kenilworth's working history follows the railway. The line from Coventry to Leamington arrived in 1844 and brought tanning, brick making and chemicals, while market gardens round the town became known for tomatoes and strawberries. Earlier in the century the town had been known for making horn combs.

Industrialists from Birmingham and Coventry built around the station, pulling the town south from the castle. In 1869 a local whitesmith, Edward Langley Fardon, demonstrated the first bicycle with wire-spoked wheels and rubber tyres, riding from Warwick Road to Leek Wootton.

The original station closed in 1965 and a new one opened in April 2018, with trains to Coventry, Nuneaton and Leamington Spa. The A46 bypass opened in 1974. Birmingham Airport and the M6, M42 and M40 are all within 12 miles of the town.

The biggest job nearby is HS2. Between Kenilworth and Burton Green the line runs through a twin-box tunnel about 700 metres long, now structurally complete, with the Kenilworth Greenway to be reinstated over it as a route to Balsall Common.

Humber Hub is about 8 miles by road from Kenilworth, Stoke Lodge and Stoke House about 8 miles and Sullivan Heights about 10 miles. For a rail or civils crew working around the town, Humber Hub gives four en-suite bedrooms and parking for the vans.
