University visitor accommodation for Lutterworth

Lutterworth has a proud engineering name. The jet pioneer Frank Whittle tested early engines with his firm Power Jets at the BTH works in Lutterworth during the late 1930s and the 1940s, with Rugby, six and a half miles south, sharing the work. Papers from those years are shown at the town museum.

Lutterworth Grammar School dates from 1630, when the town was small; by 1676 it had 644 people. For degrees, the closest universities from the town are Coventry University in the city centre and the University of Warwick on Coventry's south-western edge.

Coming from the Lutterworth side, families staying in Stoke are close to the city-centre campus: Stoke Lodge and Stoke House are about a mile from it. Lutterworth College, for ages 11 to 18, took over the building of the short-lived Sir Frank Whittle Studio School for its sixth form.

Warwick, opened in 1965, now teaches upwards of 28,000 students on 290 hectares. For a Lutterworth family the A426 and the M6 make the run to either campus straightforward. Three generations can share one house for the ceremony.

A replica of Whittle's first jet aircraft, the Gloster E.28/39, stands on a roundabout just south of Lutterworth.
