Short lets for a few nights near Leamington Spa

Leamington's best streets are Regency: parts of the Parade, Clarendon Square and Lansdowne Circus. The Parade was laid out in sections from 1808 and Queen Victoria, who had visited as a princess in 1830, gave the town its Royal title in 1838. The Victoria Bridge of 1840 joined the old village south of the Leam to the new town on the north bank.

There is plenty for a short visit. The Royal Priors indoor centre sits on the Parade, the Leamington Shopping Park opened in 1989 and Jephson Gardens, Victoria Park and the Pump Room Gardens line the river. Look for the Elephant Walk, a 19th-century slipway built so circus elephants wintering in the town could drink from the Leam.

Humber Hub is about 9 miles by road from Leamington, Stoke Lodge and Stoke House about 10 miles and Sullivan Heights about 12 miles. A short let in a whole house means a lie-in, a cooked breakfast at your own table and room to spread out after a day on the Parade.

An oak near the town centre carries a plaque recalling the Midland Oak, a tree once said to mark the centre of England.
