Leamington had 50,923 residents at the 2021 census, up from 45,459 in 2001. With Warwick, Whitnash and Cubbington it forms a built-up area of about 95,000 people. Suburbs include Lillington to the north of the centre, Milverton to the north-west and Campion Hills and Sydenham to the east, with the newer Heathcote and Warwick Gates streets to the south-west. Eden Court in Lillington is one of several residential towers among the town's landmarks.

Families moving in weigh up the schools: North Leamington School, Campion School and Trinity Catholic School are the state secondaries, with Arnold Lodge and The Kingsley School among the independents. Myton School in Warwick also takes children from parts of the town.

The way the town is run is about to change. Leamington has had its own town council since 2002, while Warwick District and the county council are due to give way in 2028 to a new South Warwickshire unitary authority.
