Contract work in and around Hinckley

Hinckley was a hosiery town. Joseph Iliffe brought the first framework knitting machine here in the seventeenth century and by the nineteenth the town made a large share of Britain's hosiery. The trade has shrunk since the Second World War, though several textile firms remain.

Its central position and motorway links have since made it a common home for distribution warehouses. Hinckley sits on the A5 and the M69, which links it to Coventry, Leicester, the M1 and the M6. It is about 12 miles from both Coventry and Leicester.

Manufacturing carries on. Triumph Motorcycles, founded in 1902 and one of the oldest motorcycle makers still working, has had its factory in Hinckley since 1990. Hammonds, the fitted furniture company founded in the town in 1926, employs more than 850 people in two Hinckley factories.

Hinckley station is on the Birmingham to Peterborough line, with regular trains between Birmingham and Leicester. Hinckley & District Museum, in a row of former framework knitters' cottages, keeps examples of the machines that built the town.

Sullivan Heights is about 11 miles by road from Hinckley, Stoke Lodge and Stoke House about 12 miles and Humber Hub about 13 miles. For a warehouse fit-out or a factory shutdown, the M69 links Coventry and the town directly.
