The county's general hospital is Northampton General, 14 miles east of Daventry. It began in a townhouse on George Row in 1744 and moved in 1793 to a purpose-built hospital designed by A Saxton, after a fund-raising campaign led by Dr William Kerr. Its Macmillan Haematology Unit opened in October 2012.

To the north-west, Rugby is about 10 miles away and its Hospital of St Cross belongs to the same trust as University Hospital Coventry. A clinician whose rotation takes in Rugby and Coventry often finds a Coventry base easier than one in Daventry.
