About Tile Hill

Tile Hill is a suburb in the west of Coventry, mostly residential with some industry, common land and woodland. It sits in what was the ancient Forest of Arden. Patches of that forest survive between the streets: Plants Hill Wood lies south of Tile Hill Lane and Pig Wood to its north.

Tile Hill Lane roughly divides the area. Tile Hill North is mainly post-war housing reaching up to Broad Lane, Tile Hill South is mostly privately owned homes down to the railway. Tile Hill Village forms the western gateway towards Burton Green and Solihull. The Tanyard Farm area, built in the early 1980s, extends the village north and west towards Eastern Green.

Tile Hill station, on the West Coast Main Line between Coventry, Birmingham and London, sits on the south-western edge where the suburb meets Canley and the borough of Solihull. Lime Tree Park lies to the east, Eastern Green to the north and Canley to the south.

Industry left its mark too. The Massey Ferguson, later AGCO, factory, offices and social club were a major employer here until they closed in 2003. Education is well represented, with West Coventry Academy, Finham Park 2 and Hereward College, a further education college for students with disabilities.

Stoke Lodge and Stoke House are about 5 miles by road from Tile Hill, Humber Hub about 6 miles and Sullivan Heights about 6 miles. All four houses are on the opposite, eastern side of the city, but each is a whole house with parking and a kitchen, which matters more than distance on a longer stay.
