About Canley

Canley is a suburban neighbourhood in south-west Coventry, close to the University of Warwick and home to many of its students. It was part of Stoneleigh parish until Coventry's boundary moved outwards between 1928 and 1932. The A45 dual carriageway runs through the middle, with early-1950s housing to the south and the private Canley Gardens to the north, towards Canley station, where a footbridge replaced the level crossing in 2003.

For much of the 20th century Canley meant cars. The Standard Motor Company opened its main works here in 1916, building First World War aircraft before Standard cars followed from 1918. Standard and Triumph cars were made at Canley until August 1980 and a sculpture of the Standard-Triumph badge now stands on Herald Avenue near the Standard Triumph Club. Sir Henry Parkes, five times Premier of New South Wales, was born in a cottage off Moat House Lane.

The University of Warwick, founded in 1965, sits on a 290-hectare campus on the edge of the city and had more than 28,000 students by the end of 2023. Warwick Arts Centre on the main campus is the largest venue of its kind in the UK outside London.

Humber Hub is about 5 miles by road from Canley and about 6 miles from the University of Warwick. For graduation weekends, open days or a visiting academic's stay, a whole house with four en-suite bedrooms can be simpler than booking several hotel rooms.
