Short let accommodation for Atherstone

Atherstone's best-known day is Shrove Tuesday, when the Ball Game is played through the streets, a tradition kept since 1199. The town became a market town in 1246, when the monks of Bec Abbey in Normandy won a weekly market charter from Henry III.

Long Street, the line of the old Watling Street, still runs the length of the town. In the 14th century Ralph Basset founded a house of Augustinian friars here and by Tudor times Atherstone was busy with weaving, leatherwork, metalworking and brewing.

For two or three nights, Humber Hub is about 15 miles from Atherstone with off-road parking and an en-suite for each bedroom.

Check-in opens at 4pm and check-out is by 10am. Each house page has a live calendar with the minimum nights and the total cost for your dates.

The Atherstone Herald and the Tamworth Herald cover the town; BBC CWR and BBC Radio Leicester both reach it, right on the county border.

St Mary's Church dates from the early 12th century. Its square tower was rebuilt in the Gothic style in 1782 and the church was redesigned again in 1849 by Thomas Henry Wyatt and David Brandon.

Atherstone Town FC, known as the Adders, play on Sheepy Road; the nickname comes from the tradition that the town's name is a corruption of Adders-stone.
