Atherstone has no acute hospital of its own. Its nearest is George Eliot Hospital on the edge of Nuneaton, 6 miles to the south-east, which opened in 1948 as the single site of its NHS trust.

That makes the north side of Coventry a sensible base for a clinician whose work is in Nuneaton or at Walsgrave. Sullivan Heights is the closest of our homes to George Eliot Hospital, about 8 miles away.

Sullivan Heights, in Upper Stoke, is also about 2 miles from University Hospital Coventry, so a rotation that moves between the two hospitals needs only one house.

Coming off a late shift, you let yourself in with self check-in; there is a kitchen for a meal at any hour and a washing machine for scrubs. Invoices can go straight to the trust or the agency.

Atherstone Leisure Complex, at the north end of Long Street, has a pool, a gym and the Memorial Hall for days off in the town.
