Corporate accommodation for Atherstone

North Warwickshire Borough Council has its offices in Atherstone, the district's administrative centre, which brings visiting officers, consultants and auditors to the town. The council has been under no overall control since May 2023.

The economy has grown fast since the 1980s. Aldi set up its head office operations in the town in the 1990s, joining 3M and TNT. The former British Home Stores warehouse now houses a Royal Mail regional sorting office.

The station has an hourly service seven days a week to London and to Crewe via Stafford, a big improvement on the five trains a day of the 1980s. Atherstone is 6 miles north-west of Nuneaton, 7 miles south-east of Tamworth and 16 miles north-east of Birmingham.

Sullivan Heights is the closest of the four to Atherstone, at about 14 miles. One house, one set of keys and one pro-forma invoice with the purchase-order number keep a visiting team's stay simple.

The historic station building of 1847 was saved from demolition in the 1980s, won an Ian Allan conservation award and has housed a veterinary practice since 2008.

Atherstone sits in the North Warwickshire and Bedworth constituency. Three Royal Navy ships have been named HMS Atherstone, commissioned in 1916, 1939 and 1985.
