Group accommodation for Atherstone

History brings groups to Atherstone. On 21 August 1485 Henry Tudor and up to 11,000 troops camped here before the Battle of Bosworth, Tudor reputedly at the Three Tuns Inn on Long Street. He is said to have met Thomas and William Stanley in secret to win their support. The battle site has now been placed around the Fenn Lanes, roughly halfway between Atherstone and Market Bosworth.

The Coventry Canal reached the town in 1769 and its flight of eleven locks is a fine walk. The geographic centre of England, fixed in 2002 at Lindley Hall Farm, lies about 3 miles east across the Leicestershire border.

Up to 34 people fit across the four homes. Stoke Lodge and Stoke House, side by side, take 18 between them, which suits a club or a reunion that wants to stay together. Sullivan Heights is about 14 miles from the town.

Smoking indoors, pets and parties or events are not allowed in any of the houses.

The Shrove Tuesday Ball Game starts at 3pm, when the leather ball, decorated with red, white and blue ribbons, is thrown from the Conservative Club balcony. Play runs along the old Watling Street until about 5pm with no teams and no goals.

Older still, the Roman settlement of Manduessedum stood at Mancetter. The archaeologist Graham Webster suggested Boudica's final battle was fought nearby around AD 60, though no firm evidence has confirmed it.
