Bubbenhall is a small village south-east of Coventry between Ryton Pools Country Park and Waverley Wood.
Bubbenhall is a village and civil parish in Warwick District, just off the A445 about five miles north-north-east of Leamington Spa and five and a half miles south-east of Coventry. It had 650 residents at the 2021 census.
St Giles's Church was built in 1153 and enlarged in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. The village keeps two pubs, The Three Horseshoes and The Malt Shovel, along with a sports field and a village hall.
Green space surrounds it. Ryton Pools Country Park lies just to the east and Weston and Waverley Wood to the south. Its neighbours are Ryton-on-Dunsmore, Stretton-on-Dunsmore, Baginton, Stoneleigh and Weston under Wetherley.
The Victoria County History describes a small parish of 1,265 acres south and east of the River Avon, with the church on a slight rise near the river and the village to its east around a cluster of small roads. Most of the houses are timber-framed buildings of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries with tiled roofs and about a thousand acres of open fields were enclosed in 1726.
In 1086 Bubbenhall was a five-hide estate of Robert de Stafford, held by Alvric, who had held it under Edward the Confessor. The parish stands between 250 and 300 feet up, ringed by woodland, with Bubbenhall Wood inside its southern boundary. Today it sits between Coventry, the A45 and the A46, close to the old Ryton car plant, the former Coventry Airport and Stoneleigh Park.
