Contractor accommodation for Northampton crews

Northampton's engineering history is long. British Timken opened a tapered roller bearing factory at Duston in 1941 as a wartime shadow factory. At its peak it employed more than 4,000 people and was a major trainer of engineering apprentices before it closed in 2002.

Today the main private employers work in distribution and finance. Avon, Barclaycard, Travis Perkins, Coca-Cola, Panasonic, National Grid, Texas Instruments and Simply Business are among them. The Carlsberg brewery has made beer in the town since 1974.

Building has been steady too. The town has grown continuously since it was designated a New Town in 1968. The University of Northampton moved to a £330 million waterside campus by the Nene in 2018.

Junctions 15, 15a and 16 of the M1 serve the town, with the A45 and A43 linking it to the rest of the county and the A14 just to the north. Trains on the Northampton Loop of the West Coast Main Line run to London Euston and Birmingham New Street.

Humber Hub is about 32 miles by road from Northampton, Stoke Lodge and Stoke House about 33 miles and Sullivan Heights about 35 miles. It suits a crew whose contract moves between Northamptonshire and the West Midlands, or a Northampton firm with work in Coventry, Rugby or at DIRFT.
