Northampton's museum on Guildhall Road holds one of the world's largest collections of historical footwear, about 13,000 pieces, alongside Italian art, glass and ceramics. The Royal and Derngate theatres share the Cultural Quarter with the independent Northampton Filmhouse, opened in June 2013.
The town's calendar includes the carnival, a beer festival, a dragon-boat race and Diwali celebrations, with the Northampton Music Festival held in the town centre every year since 2007. Billing Aquadrome leisure park lies on the eastern outskirts.
For a wedding party or a reunion with family on both sides, our houses are in Coventry, about 32 miles from Northampton. Humber Hub sleeps 10, Stoke Lodge and Stoke House nine each next door to one another and Sullivan Heights six.
Coventry has its own draw for a group: the Coventry Music Museum and the 2-Tone Village on Walsgrave Road celebrate the city's ska records of the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Abington Park Museum opened in 1899 in the house given to the town with the park two years earlier. Trilogy Leisure runs four leisure centres in the town, among them Mounts Baths.
