The area

About Wood End

Wood End is in the north of the city, surrounded by Bell Green, Alderman's Green, Potters Green and Henley Green. Together with Walsgrave and Potters Green it falls within the city's Henley ward, with the Manor Farm estate immediately to its south.

The estate was built by Coventry City Council in the late 1950s and early 1960s. It rehoused families from inner-city slum clearance and took in people moving to Coventry to work in the car industry, which was booming at the time.

Wood End, Henley Green, Manor Farm and Deedmore were the four areas chosen for the New Deal for Communities programme. In April 2004 extensive redevelopment was announced, with many older homes to be replaced by new ones that existing tenants were entitled to move into. The work has reshaped the area since.

Most homes here passed from council ownership to the Whitefriars Housing Group in 2000. Coventry's former council homes are now run by Citizen Housing. University Hospital Coventry, in Walsgrave, is a short way to the east.

Sullivan Heights, in Upper Stoke, is about 2 miles by road from Wood End and about 2 miles from University Hospital Coventry. Humber Hub, in Lower Stoke, is about 4 miles away.
