About Potters Green

Potters Green, shown as Potter's Green on Ordnance Survey maps, is a mainly residential suburb in the north-east of Coventry. Woodway Lane is its longest road, while through traffic uses Ringwood Highway, which links Woodway Lane, Wigston Road and Deedmore Road.

The name is old. The Victoria County History of Coventry records that 'a place called Potters Green' was first mentioned in 1662. It suggests the medieval hamlet of Wood End, where a green called Erneys Green existed in the fifteenth century, may have become Potters Green and it notes a common of that name as early as about 1280.

Today the suburb has a post office, local shops, takeaways and two pubs, with a patch of open ground used for Sunday league football. St Philip's Church serves the area. Potters Green Primary School, Grace Academy (formerly Woodway Park School) and Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School are all within its boundaries.

There are no large employers in Potters Green itself, though it sits close to the Alderman's Green industrial estate and the M6. That makes it an easy run for anyone working at sites around the north and east of the city or travelling on the motorway.

Sullivan Heights, in Upper Stoke, is about 2 miles by road from Potters Green and about 2 miles from University Hospital Coventry. Humber Hub, in Lower Stoke, is about 5 miles away.
