About Aldermans Green

Aldermans Green, often written Alderman's Green, is an area in the north-east of Coventry between Longford and Bell Green. Before the city expanded it was a small village and Alderman's Green Community School keeps the name in use today.

It belonged to the old parish of Foleshill. When the parish's houses were counted in 1730 there were 149 in all and the Victoria County History of Coventry thinks Foxford, Alderman's Green and Courthouse Green were probably counted with Longford, Hall Green and Bell Green.

Brick cottages from the early nineteenth century survived here into the 1960s, singly and in terraced rows, as they did at Longford, Hall Green and Bell Green. North of Alderman's Green and into Hawkesbury, the same history describes a landscape of old colliery workings, roads, railways and canals mingled with surviving fields.

That mix of canal, coal and countryside is still the setting today. The Coventry and Oxford canals meet nearby at Hawkesbury Junction and the Alderman's Green industrial estate sits beside the suburb, close to Potters Green and the M6.

Sullivan Heights is about 2 miles by road from Aldermans Green, Stoke Lodge and Stoke House about 4 miles and Humber Hub about 4 miles. Sullivan Heights is also about 3 miles from the Coventry Building Society Arena.
