Keresley sits where Coventry gives way to countryside: a former mining village with ancient woodland around it and new homes going up nearby.

About Keresley

Keresley is a suburban village and civil parish about four and a half miles north of Coventry city centre and three and a half miles south-west of Bedworth. Keresley itself is inside the city, while Keresley End, also called Keresley Village or Keresley Newlands, lies over the boundary in Warwickshire. The parish counted 713 people at the 2011 census.

For most of its history Keresley was two places. Keresley Green, to the north, came first, while Keresley Heath to the south grew with its schools and the church of St Thomas. The two only lost their separate identities in 1974.

Coal changed the north end. The Warwickshire Coal Company sank Coventry Colliery near Keresley Green in 1911 and the pit worked until it closed in 1991. Much of the parish stayed rural. The city council's wildlife surveys give a large part of it an A grade for very high natural history value, with footpaths through old woodland.

The name is thought to be Saxon. Its -ley ending is shared with many places nearby, although Keresley does not appear in the Domesday Book. The neighbouring villages are Corley, Corley Moor, Ash Green and Brownshill Green. The area sits within the city's Bablake ward.

Sullivan Heights is about 4 miles by road from Keresley, Stoke Lodge and Stoke House about 4 miles and Humber Hub about 5 miles. Any of the four works as a base for a stay on the north side of the city, with free parking and a kitchen in a whole house.
