Spon Street
Spon Street is the city's medieval showpiece, a street of pubs, cafes and shops in timber-framed buildings, some original and some moved here from elsewhere in the city in the 1970s to save them. The kerbs are flat to recreate the feel of a street without pavements.
Its best-known building is The Old Windmill, Coventry's oldest surviving pub, thought to date from at least the sixteenth century. It brewed its own beer until 1930.
Far Gosford Street
On the other side of the city centre, Far Gosford Street survived the Blitz and was once the road out to Leicester and London. Weavers, drapers and later ribbon makers worked here. Their three-storey top shops still stand. After years of decline a heritage regeneration scheme began in 2005. New businesses have filled the restored buildings since.
FarGo Village
Just off Far Gosford Street, FarGo Village mixes cafes, restaurants and vegan businesses with a craft beer brewery. Its Factory, opened in 2021, gathers street food businesses around indoor and outdoor dining areas. The village also runs food festivals through the year.
A city of many cuisines
Coventry is a diverse city. At the 2021 census about a third of residents were from an ethnic minority background, with Sikh and Hindu communities much larger than the West Midlands average. That shows in the range of food across the city.
Eating in
Every house has a kitchen, so a group can cook together on the nights they stay in. Humber Hub is about 2 miles by road from FarGo Village and Far Gosford Street. Sullivan Heights is about 3 miles away.
