About Ernesford Grange

Ernesford Grange is a suburb in the south-east of Coventry, bordering Binley, Stoke Aldermoor and Willenhall. It lies within the Coventry South parliamentary constituency.

The district was built in the 1960s and 1970s as a housing estate in three phases. Many of the closes in the second and third phases are named after managers who worked at Binley Colliery, which closed in 1963.

The name is far older than the estate. Ernesford appears under Binley in William Dugdale's Antiquities of Warwickshire of 1656. The grange once belonged to Combe Abbey. The moated site was listed as an ancient monument in 1954 and later reclassified as a scheduled monument. Excavation in 1971 found the foundations of an L-shaped building with a hall, a chamber and a kitchen with two circular ovens.

Binley Little Woods sits in the middle of the first phase of the estate. It is a protected site, known for its display of bluebells every May. The Alan Higgs Centre, opened in 2004 just outside the district on Allard Way, has a 50-metre swimming pool.

Humber Hub is about 2 miles by road from Ernesford Grange, Stoke Lodge and Stoke House about 2 miles and Sullivan Heights about 3 miles. Coventry University is about a mile from Humber Hub, so the house also suits visiting families with a student nearby.
