Binley Woods is a 1920s village just past Coventry's eastern edge, built on land sold from the Coombe Abbey estates.
Binley Woods is a suburban village and civil parish just beyond Coventry's eastern outskirts, outside the city boundary in the Borough of Rugby. It lies five miles east of central Coventry on the A428, east of its junction with the A46 and had 2,568 residents at the 2021 census.
It is a young village. People began building here in the 1920s, when parts of the Coombe Abbey estates were sold and the area was known as Binley Common. Paved roads, street lighting, piped water and drainage arrived gradually from the 1930s and some side roads were not surfaced or lit until the 1960s.
During the Second World War many people walked out from Coventry to escape the air raids, living in shacks and caravans. In 1961 the villagers voted to rename the place Binley Woods to set it apart from Binley, the Coventry suburb. The parish was renamed on 14 June that year.
Brandon Wood is next to the village. There is a pub, The Roseycombe, a village hall, a post office, a nursery, a primary school and shops and since 2001 the village has been home to Broadstreet RFC at Ivor Preece Field.
