Ansty is the canal village north-east of Coventry, a mile from the M6 and M69 junction and next door to Ansty Park.
Ansty is a village and civil parish in the Rugby borough, about five miles north-east of Coventry city centre and seven miles south of Hinckley, with 299 residents at the 2021 census. It sits on the B4065, once the main road between Coventry and Hinckley and the junction of the M6, M69 and A46 is a mile to the south-west.
Domesday names it Anestie, part of the hundred of Brinklow, with Lady Godiva as its main landowner. From 1451 until 1842 it was part of the County of the City of Coventry. St James's Church keeps a thirteenth-century chancel and a fourteenth-century arcade; Sir George Gilbert Scott rebuilt the rest in 1856.
Ansty Hall was built in 1678 for Richard Taylor, who had fought for Parliament in the Civil War; the seven-bay brick house is now a hotel. Weaving grew into a ribbon trade in the early nineteenth century before declining in the 1830s.
James Brindley finished the Oxford Canal through Ansty in 1771 and the village is known among boaters for its many no-mooring signs. RAF Ansty trained pilots nearby from 1936 to 1953 and Armstrong Siddeley later developed gas turbines and rocket motors there. Its neighbour today is Ansty Park, home to advanced engineering businesses.
