The city in numbers
Coventry had 345,324 people at the 2021 census, making it the tenth largest city in England and the second largest in the West Midlands after Birmingham. It sits 19 miles east-south-east of Birmingham and 10 miles north of Warwick. In 2021 it was the UK City of Culture.
It is a young, international city. Coventry University and the University of Warwick have around 60,000 students between them. About 15,000 students from outside the UK live in the city for a year or more.
Work
Jaguar Land Rover has its headquarters and engineering centre at Whitley. University Hospital Coventry, the two universities and the battery and advanced manufacturing sites south and north of the city are among the other big employers, with the UK Battery Industrialisation Centre at Baginton and the Manufacturing Technology Centre at Ansty Park.
Getting around
Coventry station has four trains an hour to London Euston off-peak and frequent services to Birmingham New Street. By road the city is close to the M6, M69, M45 and M1, with the M40 reached along the A46. The city centre is circled by a 2.25-mile ring road with numbered junctions, which takes a little learning.
Choosing an area
Every part of the city has a different feel, from Earlsdon's terraces and independent shops to the leafy streets of Styvechale near the War Memorial Park and the newer homes of Eastern Green. Our area pages describe each one, with its history and distances.
Somewhere to live while you look
A furnished house by the month gives you time to learn the city before you sign a lease. All four of our houses are in Stoke, on the east side of Coventry, with bills and council tax included and stays of up to twelve months.
